Alamogordo High School students, members of the community, Department of Public Safety and law enforcement agencies from across the southern region of the state said their final farewells to officer Andrew J. Dominguez on Sunday.
Dominguez's funeral took place in Alamogordo's Tiger Pit with over 1,400 people in attendance. Dominguez, 39, suddenly died on Jan. 4 at his Alamogordo home.

ADPS Director Sam Trujillo said the department sends its deepest sympathies and condolences to the family.
"Andy was a well known figure throughout Alamogordo and developed positive contacts with those he met," Trujillo said. "His loss creates a tremendous impact on his co workers, who relied on him as a valuable partner in their work, as well as a great friend. He was a great person, a great officer and a great friend."
Dominguez's son, Andrew, said he would miss seeing his father at school.
"He was a role model," Andrew said. "He transformed all these kids lives in high school. Walking through the high school is not going to be the same, walking through the hallway and worrying if my dad is going to catch me doing something I shouldn't be doing. It has happened before. Dominguez's friend and former ADPS colleague, Otero County Sheriff's Department deputy Rick Cooper, said family always came first in Andy's life.
"Andy was a good man," Cooper said. "He loved his wife and children. No matter what it was, Andy always wanted to do what was right. I am going to miss him. He cared whether it was about his kids or the department; he cared. He is going to be missed.".
